The world was cold and silent, a blurred vision he could not understand. Breath escaped his lips in white cloud, pressing against the glass and metal door before him, laying fog over the ice crusted window. There should not be a door there, he thought. There were walls around him which should not be there. There should not be darkness.
This, Lalna came to quickly realize, was not his bed.
His hands immediately began to beat on the door, fingernails chipping away at the ice that covered everything, leaving dim claw marks in their wake. He screamed, but the scream never felt loud enough, like he was caught in a nightmare, rendered mute.

The sun has scarcely risen, but we will need to look all day, so we left early.
"We're almost there. Are you sure you'll be ok?"
"I'm fine!" I say, fooling him with the act I've been putting on. "Let's go find Fishton!"
But that act is soon destroyed.
When we arrive, my fake smile fades into disbelief, and I stare into the gaping hole in front of me.
That used to be B.A.R.R.Y. That used to be Blackrock. That used to be home.
It's gone because of me.
Many hours later, we still haven't found Fishton. During our slow decent into the chasm, I found no signs of him. Same with our ascent.
The sun starts to set, though.
Rythian still scours on.

This story was originally meant to just flesh out witches (and wizards, and wixes) in my setting, but it ended up doing a few other things besides. I ended up liking Cansen and Holwyn and their dynamic far more than I expected to.
